An alternative to the Ikigai Venn Diagram.

I continue to come across blogs and videos of people getting frustrated with the Ikigai Venn Diagram, and I notice that the majority are using it for job searching. Instead of explaining why the Ikigai Venn Diagram is an overkill of a framework for the said purpose, I came up with an alternative that I feel provides a better ‘starting point’ for job hunters and seekers.

If you find this helpful, please feel free to share with your friends and colleagues looking for a job.

When the Ikigai Venn Diagram starts to frustrate you, it’s time to reframe. Here’s an example. IKIGAI is not a career destination; instead, it’s the feeling you get when your actions align with your values and needs. So, you are seeking a DREAM JOB that provides more life-affirming moments. Secondly, focus on your near-future priorities. For a recent college graduate, this may be to start living on your own. For parents, flexible work hours to spend more time with kids may be a high priority. Third, do the math to have a concrete idea of how much money you need to be making in this updated arrangement of what you love, are good at, and need. This example incorporates the elements of compromise and a sense of duty, which are often necessary in a job search. Now it’s time for you to set up your own Diagram — Ikigai Scholar

Learning about ikigai is my ikigai. I'm here to share my musings as an ikigai scholar with others seeking their own ikigai.
